Google made the long awaited Google+ Pages for business available on Monday this week.
You’d just have to check out the tweets being sent out this week about Google+ Pages to see how companies are already announcing their presence on this new platform, as well as useful tips & tricks for getting started with G+ pages, etc, etc.
Today, we’re beginning our roll out of Google+ badges by making them available to you, the Google+ Platform Preview Group. Featuring both an ‘add to circle’ and a ‘+1’ button, the Google + badge helps you grow your audience on Google+ while also showing more recommendations on Google+.
The Google+ badge also contains a snippet of code that connects your website to your Google+ page. In addition to helping us better index your Google+ page, this snippet will help you show more personal recommendations around the web by linking your +1’s on sites, your Google+ page, search and display ads.
This is also one of the necessary steps to qualify for Direct Connect, which allows people to type +Your Page Name and be taken directly to your page.
If you’d like to link your Google+ page to your website, first thing you should do is go the Google+ page you want to link to your site.
You then need to grab your Google+ page profile ID – I got mine from my pages URL, and copied it.
Then, visit http://developers.google.com/+/plugins/badge/preview. You’ll be presented with the page below:
Enter your pages profile ID (1) and then choose your badges style (2) and preview it.
Once you’re happy, get the code for your site template as well as the code for where you want the badge to be displayed.
The thing that excites me about this announcement is that by you doing this, you can link your content to your Google+ business page – which will be very good for search – using rel=”publisher” which will identify and promote your brand or company online.
